Because druid doesn't get an extra attack it doesn't keep up with the fighters so WHY do they get a fighting spell.ĮDIT: So apparently cantrip scaling goes off character level, not casting class level. Firebolt doesn't add damage, it can light stuff on fire. ![]() A cantrip is forgoing the addition of a stat mod for the place of an effect instead. This spell should definitely scale, all the other cantrips scale in order to keep up with the fighters extra attack. Maybe you're doing it for the magic weapon, but seriously you're going to have a magic weapon by at least 5th level, be patient and do more damage with no drawbacks. So great you just wasted a bonus action allowing yourself to do less damage. If you are going for a fighter with a small dip into druid, congratulations, you just swapped adding your higher stat of STR for WIS which is lower if you're a fighter. Don't forget that Shillelagh means you're making a melee attack because it only works on clubs and quarterstaves. The wizard, on the other hand, is doing more damage AT RANGE with a firebolt. By hiding, you are a caster you are handicapping yourself because you can't cast spells now without revealing it, THEN you put yourself at the front lines. Good luck hiding you're a druid when you are literally growing plants on your body. Yeah right, good luck hiding you are a caster when your party needs healing and you cast healing word. It can hide the fact that you are a caster: There is no reason for a druid to use Shillelagh at higher levels because there is always a better option. It is ok until 5th level and then it is literally unviable at higher levels. Let's assume your Wisdom modifier is +4, and the firebolt is just a regular wizard. As soon as you hit 5th level Shillelagh is outdone by every other damage cantrip. ![]() At higher levels, you should already have magical weapons at level 5 you should certainly have a magical weapon, and that's where all the other cantrips scale. And as I will show later on, the reason I think this spell sucks is that its useless at higher levels. Yes indeed it is a magical attack, but so is literally every other cantrip. It is a magical attack now and it beats resistances: I'm going to list off some common reasons for why its well balanced and then rebut them with a comparison to the cantrip "Firebolt" And I have done my research on it an I always see the same replies that seem absolutely ridiculous. I feel like the shillelagh cantrip is pretty underpowered. ![]() |
